This is a digital artwork inspired by the poem “O nothing, do not twist around nothing”. This poem is one of the famous and mysterious Persian poems that has no known author. Some attribute this poem to Rumi, the great poet and mystic of the 13th century. But this attribution is based on a story that is mentioned in the book “Mulla Sadra” by Henry Corbin. In this story, Rumi invites Shams Tabrizi to his house and buys wine for him. On the way back, he is chased and mocked by people and he replies to them: “O nothing, for nothing, do not twist around nothing”.

This poem shows the meaninglessness and transience of the world and what is in it. The poet repeats the word “nothing” to emphasize the emptiness and worthlessness of worldly existence. He says that nothing in the world is for nothing and everything goes to destruction and annihilation. So one should not cling to worldly things and depend on them. The only thing that remains is love, which forms the meaning and purpose of existence. Love that is towards God, creation and oneself. The poet invites the audience to love and kindness and asks them to leave the world and its impurities and go towards the beloved.
